139. Interim injunctions.

In view of the need for swift action to check disclosure, interim injunctions1 are of special importance in cases of disclosure of confidential information or the misuse of private information. If the importance of the material warrants it, a worldwide interim injunction may be granted2.

In cases of real urgency, such injunctions can be awarded at a hearing without notice (formerly known as an ex parte hearing)3. An applicant's lawyer need not give prior notification to each and every media group simply on the basis that they might be interested in the story, or in the private information sought to be protected, if they heard about it; the law should only impose an obligation to notify those who
