A special guardianship order is an order appointing one or more individuals to be a child's special guardian (or special guardians)1. Special guardianship bestows parental responsibility for the child on the special guardian and places limits on the parental responsibility of the children's natural parents, but unlike adoption, they remain legally the child's parents2.
