Falsify definition

What does Falsify mean?

To 'falsify' is to 'make false'.

In the context of the offence of forgery, reference must be made to the Forgery and Counterfeiting Act 1981, s 9, which exhaustively defines when an instrument is false for the purposes of that Act. The governing notion is that the instrument must not only tell a lie, it must tell a lie about itself, so that telling a lie in an application for employment is not caught but supplying a fake reference is.
